After having worked as a software engineer for several years (Flash, ActionScript 3, Flex, Python, Django and even a little C#.NET..), I always felt something was missing. Although I absolutely loved creating things, and still do!, there was a strong desire to be more involved in the prior process as well.
Thus I experimented with a variety of jobs that had some sort of mix of both “tech” and “commerce”, mostly biased towards the latter. I quickly noticed I had a passion for customer satisfaction – by delivering quality and give them the proper respect. I’d go through great lengths to protect my company’s reputation and make sure the customer knew we cared. You’d be amazed how often these small things are forgotten.
I soon learned that in a world where the competition for IT services is growing by the day it is paramount to provide added value for your customers. This is no longer just about the money, but also (and perhaps even more) about how you provide them with your services. While no two customers are the same, the majority wants the same thing: customer focused service.
Not long after that epiphany I was approached for a job as Service Delivery Manager for my current employer SecureLink in the Netherlands and things came together. I got to work with customers, build a relationship with them and be responsible for keeping them happy. My technical background helps me understand and talk eye-to-eye with their engineering team while my customer-oriented side gets to work on a commercial level.
Although I’m a service guy during the day, I can’t deny my love for software development. In my spare them I still enjoy getting some programming done in Python/Django. Hopefully I’ll be releasing my own first public website soon as well, which will naturally be featured here.
Stay tuned for more on Python, Django, ITIL, Juniper, F5, Aruba Networks, Palo Alto and much more! You’re always welcome to contact me through any of the options on the right. I’ll do my best to respond quickly.
